Trey, if you are paying taxes on your minerals in Texas they are either producing or you also own surface as I am aware of only one or two Texas Counties that assess taxes on non-producing minerals. In either event if you are paying taxes on the minerals you have a description. Many ownersof severed [...]

Thanks Adam for your reply. Yes it would be nice if all the counties would properly put forth all this data online, especially since all the taxes we pay them.

This is an issue for many out there and the fact is that without sending someone to the courthouse to view the records (unless you are lucky enough to get the records online), you have to rely on the companies leasing to find the interest and then find you.

Have 400 acres in Live Oak County in the condensate window that is currently leased. Another company has contacted me with an interest in leasing upon expiration of current lease. I am trying to get a feel for appropriate terms given the recent successes of Conoco and Pioneer. I would appreciate any comments.

Dear Mr. e thorn, The laws of descent and distribution in Texas are quite clear as to intestate succession. If your cousin dies without issue, then his interest will go to his brothers and sisters, or their children. If he has not a sibling or niece/nephew, then the interest goes to his parents. If his [...]

FYI, from the President of the AAPL: Memo to all AAPL Members As you know, Representative Marc Veasey was the co-sponsor on HB-1405. Today, he indicated to our representatives in Austin that he, like Rep. Geren, will not pursue passage of HB 1405 this Session but will also recommend that the Legislature undertake an interim [...]

Here is the full statement from AAPL President Marshall Lochausen: Ladies and Gentlemen: Yesterday Texas State Representative Charlie Geren of Fort Worth filed HB 1405 which would license all landmen under the Texas Real Estate Commission. Essentially the bill only defines what a landman does and then says that the TREC will write the rules. [...]

This is to be administered through the TREC. They will probably do for the oil and gas business and leasing of mineral rights what they have done for the real estate market.
